"We want shoppers to carry their own bags"The Jakarta administration will seal a deal with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce of Jakarta (Kadin Jaya) to stop using plastic bags by 2011.
"We'll be preparing recycled bags in replacement of plastic materials," said Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo on Monday, Feb 8.
Meanwhile, Kadin Jaya Chief Edy Kuntadi urged the Jakarta governor to issue instruction for every market management in Jakarta to avoid using plastic bags.
"We also have retail association which may encourage supermarkets to no longer use plastic bags," he said.
Edy said this answers to the demand that Jakarta should pay more attention to the environment.
"We want shoppers to carry their own bags," he said.
